Food, Textiles & Agriculture

How wonderful it has been to welcome some of our students back to school this week! Thank you to ALL the students and their families for their efforts and support during remote learning in Term 3 and 4.

Year 7 Food Technology – Remote Learning

A highlight during remote learning was students creating Teacakes, Scrolls and Cupcakes whilst learning at home. Students eagerly logged onto the WebEx class and enjoyed being connected whilst creating some delicious food at home. Students are to be commended on their positive attitude and willingness to learn at home. Thank you to all the students and their families who sent through photos of their incredible creations so beautifully presented, and I believe were devoured promptly by their families with very favourable feedback! Well done Year 7’s.

Grow Cook Sell

Students in Grow Cook Sell have been looking at reducing waste in the kitchen and ways to preserve an abundance of spinach from the school garden!

This week the students designed and produced dishes using eggs and spinach and included Quiche, Spinach and Cheese Triangles, Dumplings and Omelettes. The Year 10 students focused on the skills of poaching and blanching and were successful in doing this!

Foundation /1 and 2 Food Technology

During the last week of Term 3, the Foundation and Grade 1 and 2 students created their very own caterpillar biscuit. Students delighted in decorating their biscuits and thoroughly

enjoyed eating them by the lake!

Year 7 Agriculture

During remote learning students participated in the Cows Create Careers program. The Cows Create Careers gives students the opportunity to engage with the dairy industry while highlighting the range of university, vocational and professional pathways within the industry.

On Tuesday, students celebrated the conclusion of the Cows Create Careers program with the online Presentation Day. Students joined other schools from around Australia and participated in a variety of fun activities, Q and A, and listening to industry advocates share their story.

Congratulations to Chloe, Layla, Tilly and Holly who designed their own milk cartons to promote the dairy industry. They then had to present their milk carton to the judges who were very impressed with the sales pitch they produced!

Thank you to Jaydee events for hosting the online event and allowing the students at Edenhope College to participate in this valuable program.

Thank you to Chloe Dubios and her family for feeding Bear and Jedd during remote learning in Term 3. Your commitment to feeding the calves twice a day was greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Kelvin Williams who continued feeding the calves during the school holidays. Kelvin does an amazing job of ensuring the school farm and grounds are well maintained and cared for, you are very much appreciated Kelvin!

Year 7 Textiles

Students in Year 7 have been using the design process to research and analyse current ‘creature’ designs to inspire them to design and produce their very own ‘creature’. Students have been analysing existing products and evaluating the Aesthetics, Target Market, Techniques and Likes/Dislikes and modifications. Students have started to create their own Mood Board to inspire their design for their own ‘creature’.

Primary Agriculture

This week students went on an animal discovery tour of our farm at Edenhope College. This term students will be learning about the different farm animals we have at our school.

Students also learnt about ways to ‘Get More Veg in your day’, the promotional message from Nutrition Australia for National Nutrition week October 10 – 17. The Try for 5 is a unique collaboration between Nutrition Australia, vegetable growers and other health-focused organisations to help get more vegetables in your day. Only 5% of children eat the recommended serves of vegetables each day!

Students looked at ways they could encourage students to eat more vegetables from growing them at home, and to including them in their lunchbox for snacks.
