Principal Report

Year 12’s

When our next newsletter comes out the current Year 12’s will be close to finishing their exams and their time with us. In saying that we wish VCE students Danika and Imogen Hollis, Tahlia Cardnell, Jackson Dearden and VCAL student Dustin Hosie all the best with their life journeys once they leave us in the coming months. It has been a pleasure being a part of their learning journey.

Amazing Art

Year 12 Edenhope College Studio Arts student Danika Hollis, has completed her Year 12 sculpture and is pictured here before sending it off for assessment. The quality is so high of this sculpture that it will be entered in the VCE Arts display at the Melbourne Art Gallery. The sculpture depicts a dragon and a female warrior. Both models are made with a wire frame and are completely formed with clay. They are finished with acrylic paint. While not named yet, the warrior fighting the dragon depicts ‘The Battle Within’. Danika has always had a flare for the arts throughout her whole school life and this is just a sample of what she has already created. The dragon and the warrior are one piece of two main pieces Danika worked on during her completion of Unit 3 and Unit 4 in Studio Arts at Edenhope College.

Staffing

We welcome Georgina Campbell to Edenhope College as our F – Year 12 Art teacher for 2022 onwards. Georgina has an outstanding resume that includes teaching at some of the top schools in Melbourne. She has also had her own personal artwork displayed in galleries. Georgina contacted the school early last year after having bought a house in Edenhope inquiring about possible future work. Georgina will teach VCE art as well as art down into primary. She is also highly qualified in teaching Digital Technology, which she teaches at her current school, - Lauriston Girls School, Armadale Victoria.

A word from Georgina Campbell:

I am looking forward to working at Edenhope College and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with new students and encourage their creativity.  Moving to Edenhope full-time also means I can make faster progress on setting up my long running side project, Edenhope Artist Residency, which will involve both local and international artists spending time in the area, creating and exhibiting their art and engaging with the community. I aim to encourage students to become engaged with the arts in a meaningful and lasting way.

Current Year 3/4 teacher Alannah Pearson has taken on a joint teaching role in 2022. She is teaching Auslan from Foundation to Year 8 and team teaching in the primary school. Changing the LOTE program was not done lightly, but there is an air of excitement at what Alannah can bring to the classroom. For those that don’t know what language Auslan is, - it is sign language.

We welcome Carine Bezuidenhout

and Jo-Anne Farrelly onto our staffing team for all of term 4. Both are qualified teachers with many qualifications. They will mainly be assisting as aides in various rooms throughout the college, over the term.

Student Engagement/Wellbeing

John Hendry Visit

On the wellbeing front we have had the amazing John Hendry visit us for a second time. John works with schools all over Australia, to improve their learning environments and the wellbeing of the school community. His theory is a holistic approach with students, staff, families and the local community. John

has given lectures all over the world and is currently working with the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, on a wellbeing program. We are so lucky that John just happens to be a friend of Kathryn Close (our Special Needs coordinator and F-2 teacher), and her family. John also worked for Geelong Grammar for 30 years and played state cricket.

John visited all students’ classes onsite and spoke with students, relating his philosophy and experiences. John brought his blind dog Mo with him as part of his program. The students and teachers hung off every word and it would be hard to find a kinder person on the planet. John also met with student leaders for a lunch on Friday. When John comes back again he wishes to gather all the local schools and community groups so that his holistic program can be communicated as wide as possible.

Thanks Kat for your efforts in organising John to come to the college and be a part of our wellbeing approach moving forward. Resilience and acceptance are a big part of his approach and it’s something that is needed in the current world climate.
