Selemat siang!
WHAT AN EXCITING WEEK!!! We were back and we were loving every single minute of it. It was so wonderful to be reunited in our classrooms all together after all of our hard work learning remotely. On Monday we discussed our feelings about our return to onsite learning. Students spoke about how we had a range of feelings including nervousness, as we had not been all together for what felt like ’forever’. We agreed for certain that the main feeling we were experiencing was excitement!!! How good is it to be back with friends!!! We also spoke about how proud we were of all of the hard work we put in while learning from home. We celebrated what we were most proud of with each other. Thank you to families again for all of your support throughout these times.
In Literacy, Foundation were introduced to our new friend Vinny Vocabulary, who is part of the VCOP gang. Vinny’s favourite thing is all things words, interesting words! He helped the Foundation students think of interesting adjectives to describe characters in a story and animals that we watched on a virtual tour of Melbourne zoo. At the beginning of the week we came up with adjectives such as big, but Vinny told us that he knew we could think of some more interesting ways to say big. Foundation students then brainstormed words such as giant, humongous, gigantic which Vinny was super excited about. We are going to continue to practise using wow words to help up level our writing to make it more interesting. We jumped back into reading groups and explored different characters and settings in stories, as well as practised our Magic 100 Words through playing games such as memory and snap.
In Maths, we revisited addition and subtraction. We began the week by getting outside and playing different Maths games with our friends in our class. We were able to use some of the strategies we have been learning while completing remote learning as well as have fun engaging in different games. Throughout the week we then revised different problem solving strategies and applied them to both addition and subtraction problems.
Throughout our three days onsite students engaged in a range of fine motor activities and play based learning activities. Play-based and inquiry learning is the process during play when students inquire using their imagination to explore, experiment, discover, collaborate, improvise and create. The cognitive processes used by students in play stimulate and integrate a wide range of intellectual, physical, social, emotional and creative capabilities to foster high-level learning. This will be a continued feature within our weekly schedule.
On Thursday and Friday a Specialist choice board and Guided Inquiry, Wellbeing and STEM choice slides were provided for students on Seesaw, along with a public speaking competition activity. Students were asked to create a small presentation all about them and record themselves reading it, practising our Speaking and Listening goals. This week in class we have allocated time for those students who wish to present their speech to the class.
We hope you have a wonderful week!
