SPC Boarding  News

Over the weekend the SPC boarders participated in some incredibly fun activities. On Saturday afternoon, all boarders orienteered their way from the boarding house to the Telegraph Station. Once there, they scaled Trigg Hill to the lookout, then made their way back to school. Saturday night’s dinner was delicious homemade pizzas. A huge thank you goes out to Issy, who spent Saturday afternoon making the pizza dough for our pizza bases.

Last Friday, we said goodbye to two mother figures: Karen Fleming and Jill Fitzgerald who have been essential to keeping the boarding house running this term. Karen has been the lady for late-night hot chocolates and a comforting motherly hug when times got tough for just over two years. Although Jill started with us this term, her go-get-it attitude certainly rubbed off on the staff and students. Regardless of the time spent with the kids, both incredible ladies contributed a great deal to St Philip’s College and in particular boarding. They will be missed by us all!

Sunday morning all boarders went to the Alice Spring's Aquatic Centre for some fun and exercise thanks to Swimming NT. It consisted of swimming races and activities where the boarders needed to work together in an attempt to move one person from one side of the pool to another. When Sunday afternoon finally arrived, there were some extremely tired individuals which made for a very quiet night to finish the weekend.

This weekend is the Queen's Birthday long weekend, (otherwise known as Finke Weekend) with all things motor cars and motor bikes coming to Alice Springs. To the boarders attending, have fun, stay safe and stay warm. To those who are staying in the boarding house, we hope we can provide the same level of excitement for the three days.

Next week the Year 11 students depart on their Leadership expedition. We hope you have a great time and are looking forward to all of your stories when you return!

Girls' Boarding News

Week 6 was a relatively quiet week in the Girls’ Boarding House with our boarders having assessments due, and all girls trying to finish the term on a strong note. Many of our sporty girls had byes in their respective sports, which was unfortunate, but provided an  opportunity for a break.

To all girls in the boarding house I want you to keep the below quote in mind.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”- Maya Angelou

Teachers are finalising grades, and after this week, we only have two more weeks of this term, so it is important to finish as strongly as we started and reflect on how much we have grown and learnt this term.

Thank you all for a great week.

Boys' Boarding News

Another week rolled through with a pattern of shared, whole boarding experiences, personal triumphs and positive memories added to the 2021 legacy.

The boys have really missed playing footy matches during the two week mid-season break due to the AFL game and Finke long weekend. Next Wednesday evening can’t come fast enough.

A special thanks to our Year 11 boys; Keegan, Liam and Pedrea whose time with us for semester one concludes in the next few days. Keegan and Liam are off on the Year 11 Leadership Expedition and Pedrea will be off completing his filming commitments. As our seniors, the boys have each made a significant contribution to the Boys' Boarding House being a place where every boy feels safe and valued.

This term we have emphasized the building of self management skills and carrying through on commitments. It has been pleasing to see the boys week in, week out no matter the weather or other ‘distractions’, turn up for training, House sports, meetings and Ex Activities. Well done boys!
