Prep 2022 Interviews have begun

I am looking forward to starting to get to know so many of our new 2022 Preps in weeks 9 & 10. It will be a busy end to term 2.

Prep interview letters have been sent out to all families who have submitted an enrolment form.  If you have not yet submitted your enrolment form, can you please send it into the office by the end of Term 2, if not you will need to use the new enrolment format which includes a lot more forms to fill out!

After the interview process, enrolment agreements, parent and student codes of conduct will need to be signed. This process has changed slightly now we are under the MACS Schools. You will be sent digital copies of the agreements prior to your interview and a paper copy will need to be signed at the completion of the interview process. You can also read all enrolment documents linked below.

Please see our Virtual Experience on our website or right  here

New MACS Policies

We are in the process of moving to our new MACS suite of school policies which includes new enrolment form, enrolment agreement, parent code of conduct, student code of conduct and fee documents. I will start to share these with the community over the coming weeks and you will find them on our school website before July 12th.

The Policies fall under 5 categories;

  1. Care, safety and wellbeing of students
  2. Child safety
  3. Complaints handling
  4. Employment
  5. Enrolment
  6. Infrastructure
  7. Advisory Council

This week we introduce you to the Enrolment suite of policies. These will take over our current enrolment forms and policies. For all families who have signed our old enrolment form, in agreeing to comply with the school's policies, there is a clause included which states 'These policies are reviewed regularly and may be subject to change at the school’s discretion'.

Many of the new policies are very similar to our previous enrolment policies but it is a good idea to read the codes of conduct in particular and the enrolment agreement.

  1. Enrolment Policy
  2. Enrolment Procedure
  3. Enrolment Agreement.
  4. Parent/Guardian/Carer Code of Conduct.
  5. Student Code of Conduct.
  6. Student/Family Occupation Index.
  7. Photograph/Recording/Permission Form.
  8. Fees and Charges Policy
  9. Concessional Fee Policy
  10. Standard Collection Notice
  11. Privacy Policy

Keeping your children safe online

Please be aware of what your children are doing online. In particular on social media. Instagram accounts are for children 13 and over. If you allow your child to have an Instagram account then you need to state in their profile that they are under 13 years of age and that their account is managed by a parent.  In the world of memes, children post highly inappropriate  and derogatory memes often about other people, sometimes with the belief that the memes are funny. Please actively monitor all social media accounts and know what your children's online presence looks like.

"Instagram requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account. In some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher. Accounts that represent someone under the age of 13 must clearly  state in the account's bio that the account is managed by a parent or manager. If your child is younger than 13 and has an account that isn't managed by you or a manager, you can show them how to delete their account."

Student-Led Three way Conferencing 2021

In 2021, we are inviting you and your children to take part in what is normally called 'parent/teacher conferences'. We are changing the voice in these conversations this year so that we can further empower our learners to take charge of their learning and learn how to receive feedback about their learning. We have created a brochure for our families explaining the purpose of these conferences and we look forward to our students leading the way. Conferences are scheduled for Term 3, week 1. We hope that we can proceed by then in a face to face environment.

  1. Tuesday 13th July 3.45-5.30pm
  2. Wednesday 14th July 2.00-7.30pm

We will be finishing school early on Wednesday 14th July @ 1pm.

No Assembly on Friday

As we would like to transition our students back to school tomorrow in their individual class groups and settle them back gently, there is no scheduled assembly. We hope that Wellbeing Wednesday was a god connection to community building this week. We will post our student of the week awards virtually on Friday.  We look forward (hopefully) to returning to regular weekly assemblies with parents in

Term 3.

New Timetable

In term 3 we will be changing our daily timetable to allow for a more extended learning block in the morning and in the middle sessions. After much consultation and discussion and lots of work our new timetable will consist of the following blocks:

9.00-11.00           2 hour learning block for                                              Literacy ( 1 hour of reading, 1                                    hour of writing) with a

10.00am                fruit break

11.00-11.30          Recess break

11.30-1.30            2 hour learning block ( 1 hour                                    of Numeracy and 1 hour of                                         Inquiry                                                                               (Humanities/Science/Civics                                     and Citizenship/Geography                                       Geography/Capabilities)

1.30-1.40               Lunch eating time

1.40-2.30               Lunch break

2.30-3.30               1 hour learning block                                                    (RE/SEL)

This will take a little adjustment but will allow better learning blocks in the first half of the day and a shorter afternoon. We will monitor this and guide the students into the new routine gently.

Swimming

The swimming program from Prep-6 is scheduled to start in week 2 of Term 3. More information regarding cost, days and times will be coming to you via Operoo.

Circus Skills

The Circus skills program also begins in week 1 of Term 3. We have a busy first few weeks back but we know how important this program is to our wellbeing structures and performing arts culture. Circus skills days will be on Mondays and Tuesdays and will culminate to a concert in week 9, Thursday September 9th.

Staffing Update

We are very close to finding our new STEM teacher and coach who will replace Mrs Aley Allen as she takes maternity leave  for 12 months. Our new STEM teacher will start in Term 3.  I look forward to announcing this news in our final newsletter for Term 2.
