MPS Junior AECG Leadership Day

In Week 7, Kempsey High School hosted the first ever Macleay Public Schools Junior AECG Leadership Day. The MPS Junior AECG advocates leadership through cultural affirmation, integrity and the pursuit of equality to ensure that the unique and diverse identity of Aboriginal students is recognised and valued with a strong voice.

Leaders from 7 primary schools encompassing approximately 60 students and 2 high schools including 20 high school leaders engaged in activities from our community partners. The workshops included cultural connections from Fig Tree Mob, language lessons and AECG structures from Aunty Caroline (President of the MVLAECG), art making by Blackboy Creations and goal setting and academy values by Kempsey High School Clontarf and NASCA staff. Students from the primary schools spent time at the end reflecting on how they could lead components of their workshops back to their schools.

Our leadership event was also fortunate enough to coincide with National Reconciliation Week. The whole school celebrated with the participants, enjoying lunch and the opportunity to learn Traditional Indigenous Games on the oval - led by Grant Schubert, Sam Drew, Mr Cooper and Mr McCarney.

A big shout out to Kempsey South PS, Aldavilla PS, Stuarts Point PS, Frederickton PS, South West Rocks PS, Kempsey East PS, Smithtown PS and Melville High School for participating and of course our Kempsey HS Junior AECG for leading such an awesome day.
