Prep -Grade 2

Remote Learning

During remote learning in week 8 of term, the Grade 1 and 2’s were practising the visualising CAFÉ Reading strategy.  When students visualise; they draw on their background knowledge, imagination and the content of the text.

Visualising makes us want to keep reading!  As children develop their skills it provides the opportunity to leave reality behind for a moment and escape into another world.

The students read the poem 'Green Giant' by Jack Prelutsky and were asked firstly to visualise the giant, then draw the image they had created in their mind. Here are some of the wonderful pictures they created.

The 'Buddy Program' in action

In the final weeks of term 2 the Prep and Grade 1 students relished the opportunity to share a class reward with their ‘buddies’ from the senior school.

The buddy program at Weeden Heights Primary School involves our Prep and Grade 5 students. Students regularly meet and develop positive role modelling relationships, where the older students support, care and connect with students in their first year of schooling.  Student retain these relationships when they move on to Grade 1 and Grade 6.
