Year 3/4 String Program

The Year 3/4 String Program is in full swing. Each Friday from 9.45am - 10.45am all of Year 3 and some students from Year 4 join our team of string teachers to learn violin, viola, cello and double bass. This term students are learning to use pizzicato (plucking) to play a selection of simple songs using first position fingerings. Students also sing and count songs, learning to use sol fa and kodaly syllables. Our String Program is developing cognitive function and neuroplasiticy, especially in the areas of language processing, fine motor skills and memory tagging. Year 3/4 string players are guided by specialist staff Danita Harris (violin/viola), Damien Johnson (cello/double bass) and Mrs Jaclyn Baxter (Year 3 Junior School Educator). Mrs Baxter is also loving learning the cello!

String Instruments home

There have been many excited students asking when they can take their instruments home. Instruments can be taken home as of next Friday, May 21 (Week 5). We really encourage students to take their instruments home. This is the best way to develop practice routines and enhance progress in the program. Parents of students in Year 3 must fill out this borrowing agreement before instruments can be taken home:

Instruments taken home must be brought in for Friday class.

Supplementary tuition

Many parents have enquired about supplementary tuition. You can enrol your student in extra private tuition to supplement the ensemble tuition Year 3 students receive in the program. This is a great way to help your child progress more quickly and to a high standard while participating in the program. We have several specialist staff who offer private tuition in individual and small group lessons as part of the College Music Academy. To enrol your child in the private tuition in violin, viola, cello or double bass, please fill out this online enrolment form:

Information letter

An information letter has been sent out to parents of students in the Year 3/4 String Program this week. Please read this letter to find out everything you need to know about the program. Feel free to contact me for more information if required.

Year 4 Classroom Program

Year 4 students not enrolled in the Year 3/4 String Program are enjoying a music literacy and percussion program with myself and Mrs Suzanne Heffer (Year 4 Junior School Educator). This term, students are learning to read, hear, write and play simple rhythmic values and to create rhythmic compositions.
