Music News

Music students have been busy during the last month with competitions, public performances and workshops in readiness for our Winter Music Showcase Concerts.

Unfortunately, as with so many other things we have had to cancel the Winter Showcases due to the current COVID lockdown.

We want to thank everyone for their incredible support of the Winter Concerts, we will be providing ticket refunds in the coming days.

We are working hard to come up with alternative performance opportunities for the students – so keep your eyes out for updates on Compass and via email.

In other Music News… we have some amazing work to celebrate!

Jaga Jaga Community Volunteer Awards

The VCE String Quartet, and vocalist Mia Fatouros were excellent representatives of the school at the recent Jaga Jaga Community Awards.

They received some wonderful feedback from the organisers of the event and from members of the community.

All State Jazz

The weekend of the 1st of May marked our first public performances in over 12 months. Both the Chamber Choir and the Ellington Stage Band competed in the inaugural All-State Jazz competitions at St Leonards College in Brighton.

We are pleased to announce that the Chamber Choir was awarded 3rd Place in the Premier Vocal Division, making us the highest placed public school in Victoria.

The choir was also awarded the Stage Craft award.

The Ellington Stage band performed in the A Division Jazz Band section.

Their excellent performance was recognised with two members of the band Joshua Coley (Guitar) and Tristan Western (Tenor Saxophone) being selected as members of the prestigious All-State Jazz Superband.

This recognises these students as the top performing students on their respective instruments in the A Division!

Fight MND Club – MCG Event

The VCE String Quartet performed at the launch of the Fight MND Club at the MCG on the 18th May.

The students received the following feedback after the event.

The feedback from the guests on the night has been incredibly positive with many saying it was just one of those nights they will always remember.  And this sort of feedback doesn't just happen. It takes a team of people to make sure guests feel welcomed and entertained from the moment they arrive to when they decide it's time to leave.

Having the string quartet and the beautiful music playing for guests to enjoy as they arrived was really special especially with the acoustics of the MCG venue. It was just the icing on the cake adding to the exclusivity of the night. Your students should feel very proud of their performance and contribution to the night.

We are very proud of our students, particularly their ability and willingness to use their musical talents to contribute to the broader community.
