NAPLAN

Last week our Grade 3 & 5 students sat the four NAPLAN tests - Language Conventions, Writing, Reading and Numeracy. We are all very proud of the students' efforts and positive attitude towards the tests.

Thank you to all of the teachers who prepared the students to do as well as they can. We will receive the results in early September and will then distribute the results to families.

Writing

I had the pleasure of a visit from two students from 4/5A to show David and myself their writing. The focus has been on word choice and this is evident in their excellent pieces of writing. This aligns to David's piece on the previous page about our school focus on effective explicit instruction practices when teaching writing. Well Done Ethan and Brigitte!

Victorian High Abilities Program (VHAP)

The Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) is an online program in the areas of English & Mathematics, for students in Grades 5 & 6, whereby students engage in  an online session for one hour per week with a teacher using VSV Online. The students are selected by the Department of Education using a variety of data sources. Each program runs for one term.

Our participation in this initiative is another way in which we differentiate our academic offering to our students.

Tutoring

This year, our school has been fortunate enough to have received funding for a ‘Tutoring Program’. The program provides additional education support for students impacted by COVID restrictions in 2020. Through analysis of the data and learning outcomes, teachers identify the students and the key areas for improvement. The small group sessions are held several times a week and include specific instruction in both literacy and numeracy from Prep to Grade 6.

The program aims to reach as many students as possible. The groups and learning focuses will change throughout the year as students become established in their understanding of topics. Many students participating in the program have already made significant growth academically and in their confidence as learners.

Clubs

Our clubs have been up and running for a few weeks and have received a really positive response from our students. I wonder how many students can now solve the Rubik cube?

Take Care,

Cam
