From the Principal

Welcome Back to SFS

It was sensational to welcome back all our children back to St Francis de Sales today after our recent lockdown. There was a buzz in the air as everyone greeted one another. Despite the fog and the chill in the air there was a warmth generated from being together once again. The children did not miss a beat and neither did their teachers and we were back into the swing of learning and teaching at school.

A BIG thanks to staff and parents for navigating our latest round of remote or learning off site. We appreciate the efforts to ensure that children continuing to learn despite the obstacles and challenges faced.

We would love your feedback about the changes we made in our 2021 off site /Remote learning. How did it compare to 2020? If you could please take the time to give us your feedback. We hope there is no need for further remote learning but it is best to be prepared and continue to learn and improve. Your feedback will help us to do this.

Staff Professional Learning day

Next week we have one not two staff professional learning days. We have no school on Tuesday 15 June for a PL on our Review. However we will now be returning to school on Wednesday as we have decided to postpone this planned Mathematics PL day for later in the year. After our recent lock down we believe it is important to get our children back to face-face teaching.

Thus for next week

  • Monday 14 June - Public Holiday - No school
  • Tuesday 15 June - Staff PL on our Review - No School
  • Wednesday 16 June - Back to school for the rest of the term.

2020 Annual Report to the Community

The 2020 St Francis de Sales Annual Report to the Community has been published on our school website and a link to the document is also available in this week's newsletter. The Annual Report describes school improvement goals as set out in our 2020 Annual Action Plan and the progress the school has made in our key priorities.

2020 Annual Report to the Community

As we approach our next review in Term 3, 2021 we will be engaged in a review of the school's work over the past four years on the School Improvement Plan (2018-2021) developed at our last review in 2017.  As a result of this work a new School Improvement Plan (2022- 2025) will be developed as we set our goals and intended improvement priorities for the next four year improvement cycle. Christine Wakeling is the independent reviewer appointed to facilitate our review. Christine is a retired experienced Primary Principal in Victorian State Schools.

The staff are currently completing our documentation and the evidence of our work over the past four years for Chistine Wakeling to view. We will be sharing this information prior to the end of this term.

Our review dates are as follows:

July 20 2021 - Pre-Review Visit.

  • This visit will include a tour and discussion of our school's compliance to Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) requirements. All Victorian Catholic schools are required to meet the minimum standards and other requirements for registration of schools, and other accountability requirements set out in legislation and funding agreements with both the state and commonwealth governments.

August 17 and 19 2021 - School Review

  • Christine Wakeling will be at St Francis de Sales to view discuss and verify our evidence. These two days will involve meetings with various groups.

September 16 2021 - Review Dialogue and Engagement

  • At this session Christine will present her report and will engage in discussion with our Leadership team as we develop our next School Improvement Plan (SIP) based on recommendations and our common understanding of needs. Engaging in this dialogue with Christine Wakeling  and our Leadership Team, will be Maree Holmes, MACS Southern Regional Leadership Consultant and Madeline Kelly MACS Learning Consultant School Effectiveness. As we move forward with our Annual Action Plans based on our new SIP priorities both Maree and Madeline will provide us with support and access to valuable resources and opportunities to support our future plans.

We look forward to this period of review and the development of our 2022-2025 School Improvement Plan.
