Principal Report

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we find ourselves in Lockdown 4.0, which has just been extended to midnight Thursday 10th June, I’d like to start by thanking each and every one of you for working closely with your child’s teacher and our support staff to ensure your child’s learning was able to continue so smoothly. Reports back from staff indicated that on Monday there was a great take up of students learning on-line, if they had a device or by completing the hard-copy pack that many parents collected on Monday. Our staff are available to support your children through questions or connection through Class Dojo, Google Classroom for children in Years 3 - 6 or via WebEx. Please encourage your child to use these avenues if they have any questions about the learning.

Digital Devices: We have contacted families via Class Dojo if they indicated to their child’s teacher that they did not have access to a device or internet. Fortunately this is not too many this time because the Government’s ‘Bridging the Digital Divide’ Program meant that all students who were loaned a device last year were able to keep it. They now have a device at home to use during this Remote Learning period and any other we may find ourselves in. Please refer to the Class Dojo message about uploading the free programs and applications to use during Remote Learning. Hardcopy packs will be available from the office from Monday if you require one.

Queen’s Birthday and Curriculum Day: At this stage children are due back on-site on Friday 11th June. We will need to continue following announcements in the media to monitor any changes to this date. Regardless, Monday 14th June is a public Holiday, which means no school for children across the State. Tuesday 15th June has been set aside as a Curriculum Day at Melton West Primary School. On this day students will not be required at school. Staff will continue our work on the Self-Evaluation in preparation for our School Review.

Parent Survey: As part of our Self-Evaluation we are gathering as much feedback from parents and students to help create a story of what we have achieved over the past few years and to identify areas that we need to continue to work on into the future. Thank-you to those who completed the ‘Highlights’ survey recently. Please consider completing another survey which focusses on Attendance. Please use this link to go to the survey, which should not take more than 5 minutes to complete and is completely confidential. https://forms.gle/KrCKpWdGTt6EuFLH8 This survey will be open until 11th June. Thank-you to those 67 people who have already completed the survey.

Student Reports: At this stage Semester 1 Student Reports are due to be sent home on Monday 21st June with Student-Led Conferences for Prep – 2 and 3-Way Conferences due to occur on Thursday 24th June. However due to the lockdown, this timeline may need to shift. We will keep you updated about this in the next few weeks.
