Big Group Hug

Donations Required

This year our VCAL students are supporting the organization ‘Big Group Hug.’

They operate from a warehouse at University Hill, Bundoora, meaning they are

a local charity supporting many families in our area.

A way to help

Big Group Hug works with family shelters in our community to ensure children who enter facilities such Safe House shelters with their mothers’ have access to two weeks’ worth of clothing, nappies, wipes and other toiletries. We also ensure children have access to books and toys so their transition is more comfortable. Each year we run a "PJs Socks and Jocks Make for Warm

and Happy Tots” campaign which is a great way to get people of all ages to help children like Karen’s. We regularly need donations of new socks, underwear and pyjamas and we need your help to donate and SPREAD THE WORD!

The organization also helps families struggling with the day to day costs of living due to unexpected unemployment, a family member’s illness impacting their ability to work, asylum seekers and single parent families.

One in six children, or 739,000, under the age of 15 live below the poverty line in Australia

(Australian Council of Social Service, Poverty in Australia 2018).

A third of sole parent families, who rely on one income, live below the poverty line.

Big Group Hug have provided us with a donations collection bin. Over the next few weeks we will be collecting donations of clean and unused, socks, underwear, nappies and pyjamas. Any donations will be gratefully accepted and make a huge impact on Big Group Hug’s ability to provide support to those in need. Please help by donating items!

Donations can be left at the VCAL office near T9 or with Ms Rehak/Ms Hill in their office between D7/D8 until early June.
