Banning social media?

A close debate

On the 21st of July, our Year 8 debating team versed John Edmondson’s Year 7 debating team. The topic was, ‘That social media should be banned for under 18’s’. As a result it was a very close debate but we successfully took the win. A point that led us to the win was the fact that we consistently stayed on topic. It was a challenging debate that both teams enjoyed.

On the same day, our Year 7 debating team came up against John Edmondson’s Year 8 team. Their topic was, ‘That parents should only allow their children to watch TV on weekends’. Our Year 7 team were affirmative and ended up winning the debate. A point that led them to their win was that TV was too overpowering and may lead to your physical health being jeopardised. Congratulations to James, Lucy, Taneisha and Lily.

Overall, the day was quite enjoyable and both teams learnt a lot from the experience.  Maryam, Shyla, Edwin and Aidin (Year 8)
