Inspired by Jesus we work to bring all to the fullness of life

Hello everyone

On Friday 8 June, our staff had their annual spirituality day. The day focused on our understanding of Missionary Discipleship through the lens of Mary, Mother of God. In the morning, staff were led by our Liturgy Coordinator, Christine Savage, to think deeply about Mary as represented through the Gospels. Mary is often referred to as the first disciple and the first of all believers. She saw the potential in Jesus and, at the wedding at Cana, encouraged Jesus and challenged Him to perform His first miracle. In a sense, Mary’s trust in God and courage helped her to bring Jesus to the fullness of His life.

This led our staff to embrace our new College statement ‘Inspired by Jesus we work to bring all to the fullness of life’.  This statement is drawn from the Catholic Education, Diocese of Wagga Wagga Strategic Plan which references John 10:10 ‘I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly' as a foundational Gospel message for Catholic Schools.

Aligning with our work to bring all to the fullness of life and our core work to continually improve our capacity to cater for the learning and wellbeing of students at our school, our staff participated in a targeted session of professional learning and dialogue about how we can better support our boys. Invaluable input from our psychologist Kylie Campbell helped to shape our learning. Our main areas of focus included:

Exploring notions of masculinity and challenges (Watch Joe Ehrmann’s TED Talk)

Challenges for Australian boys (Watch Episode 2 of the ABC series ‘Man Up’  from 39 mins)

Research from the book by Steve Biddulph ‘Raising Boys in the Twenty-first Century’ (See below for a summary of key ideas)

Implications for our role as educators

Staff will continue to work to improve our support for boys at KCC. We understand the importance of our partnership with families in developing ‘Good Boys to Good Men’.

Thank you to our three boys Jim, Charlie and Patrick, who allowed us to use their photos in the poster below. These Year 8 boys took these fantastic photos in their Art class.
