ANZAC DAY 2018

ANZAC DAY  MARCH

Abbey Bradley and Amelia Gill - our junior leaders who spoke confidently and with pride at the Mt Eliza Community ANZAC Day service in the village.

ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY

The Mount Eliza Secondary College ANZAC assembly, hosted by school captains Bella Fenton and Cooper Rigg and organised and run by the leadership team was a great success. Initially we planned to have a guest speaker however a last minute cancellation sparked a ripple of nerves through the leadership team. As an alternative, we were able to have students Isabelle Duggan and Jess Leatch tell their stories of a relative and as such the audience were more invested and listened intensely in a way that we could have only dreamed of.  Rosie McLuskie also spoke of what ANZAC day means to her. Another huge positive was the focus of our assembly being the Anniversary of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux, where passionate students Amelia Gill and Abbey Bradley wrote and read out a recount of Australia’s participation in the battle. Lola Murchie, Alexandra Chatwin-Dalgleish, Heather Mackay and Carolyn Van der bijl each selected and researched a soldier that resonated with them and told their story. We also had poems beautifully read out by Wil Emond, Calliope Rich and Amy Anderson with such conviction and emotion that only intensified the significance of remembering those who gave their lives for us. Sam Howlett performed ‘Spirit of the Anzacs’ and Avalon Bragg played the last post. Our students performed above and beyond the expectations and it feels like a legacy the 2018 student leaders have left, and we feel confident that it will continue to grow and inspire students for many years to come.

To further the success of the ANZAC Assembly, the 2018 student leaders had the honour of marching in the Mornington March on ANZAC Day, representing the school with our heads held high. We were lucky enough to be asked to have two student leaders, school captain Bella Fenton and school communications leader Alexandra Chatwin-Dalgleish represent the school and present a reading on behalf of the Mornington community at the Memorial service. It was a proud moment and as student leaders we were honoured and overwhelmed with the opportunity to represent our school and the fallen soldiers, it was definitely a day to remember.
