Nossal - World Leaders Again!

Rotary District 9820’s annual Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) program ran this year from the May 5 to May 7. The event aims “to encourage young people to learn respect and tolerance for people of all cultures, races, religions and nationalities”, and to immerse young people in the issues of the world today.

Nossal was fortunate enough to be able to send two teams, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Berwick and Traralgon - Hayden Radford and Jordan van Rhyn, representing the USA; as well as Lauren Richardson and Aditya Gadgil, representing India. During the weekend, our teams debated world issues (such as taking action on climate change, and on violence against women), negotiated with other countries, and made valuable friendships. The event was a great success! Nossal’s teams brought home three of the five awards - Best Overall Delegation, Most Respected Delegation, and the District 9820 Peace Shield - and both of the trophies, which will stay at Nossal for a year.

We’d like to thank Ms Veale, for organising the teams; the Rotary Clubs of Berwick and Traralgon, for organising the event; Alf Reina, for providing transport to and from the event and for his valuable insight into the resolutions; and all participants, for helping to make the weekend a fun and memorable one.

Hayden and Jordan will represent Nossal at the MUNA Nationals in Canberra later this year.
