Program inspires

FAST

FAST (Fitness and Sports Training) Program has been developed this year to promote the benefits of physical activity and fitness amongst the students at Cecil Hills High School. Throughout this year on a Monday afternoon (3-4pm) students across all year groups have been part of a program that has given them the opportunity to develop their skills in both sport and fitness training activities. The program is structured in a one hour session that focuses on 30 minutes of fitness based training similar to many programs and activities offered by personal trainers andgyms; these include activities such as boxing, skipping, cardiovascular workouts (including the beep test and circuit training) and working on core strength. The program is also aligned with the current curriculum offered to students during their weekly PE and sport lessons in order to provide students with extra training if they require it. Throughout the year we have worked on a number of sports and the related skills required within each of them.

The program has been made up of students from all physical activity and sporting backgrounds. The program has also given students primarily year 9 and 10 students who excel in sport and physical activity mentor roles and leadership opportunities. At the beginning of the program students were surveyed in order to gauge their level of confidence with sport and fitness based activities and to see what they felt were their strengths and weaknesses in order to ensure the program met their personal goals and areas they would like to improve. Across the year students have indicated that they have built higher levels of confidence with sport and fitness related activities and have enjoyed the activities and can see the benefits to their overall health and well-being.

The program will run for the remainder of 2016 and will be offered again in 2017. Any students who would like to attend (all year groups are welcome!) at any time throughout this year or next year are encouraged to do so. So if you are looking to improve your level of fitness, work on specific sport skills, require help reaching sport and physical activity goals or just want to keep fit and have fun come and be part of the FAST Program on Monday afternoons. Thank you to all students who have been part of the program so far and I look forward to achieving continued success in the future.
