Languages Diversity Day

On Languages Diversity Day, the French students had the opportunity to immerse themselves into the French culture. They started the day with a French duo, playing French folk songs and introducing typical French instruments. The performance then turned into an iconic Mime performance, which was full of humour and laughs.

After these performances, the students then watched ‘Belle et Sebastien 3’, which seems to be a tradition when choosing to watch a French movie. At recess, the students were allowed to have a free crepe with any topping of their choosing, to fully experience the French lifestyle. To complete the day, it ended with an assembly that incorporated a lot the cultures in the school. It was filled with diverse dances, songs and anthems.

During Languages Diversity Day, the Japanese students had the honor of viewing a Taiko performance paired with the shakuhachi. We learned about the Shakuhachi, a flute-like instrument curated from natural bamboo. Each student was able to harmoniously play the taiko drums in a composition, and also try out the Shokuhachi afterward. Following the workshops, the students were taught calligraphy, and the lesson was comprised of the students attempting to intricately brush the kanji of the proverb 「舎短取長」 - meaning, "throw away deficits, and take virtue". The assembly strung together insightful guest speakers with both Japanese and French experience, who highlighted the importance of learning a language in contemporary society and exciting dances, to make for a memorable assembly.
