Top Designs and the Melbourne School of Design
Unit 1 and 3 Visual Communication Design students went with Mrs Cilia to the Top Designs Exhibition and lecture at the Melbourne Museum. We listened to a VCAA representative/VCD teacher talk about the components of a successful VCD Folio and a Graphic designer talk about his design studio and the work that he has been producing over the last five years and the processes that he uses. The students also viewed the top Visual Communication Design folios from 2018 and took photographs and notes on techniques that they can use in their own folio this year.
After lunch we walked to the Melbourne School of Design. While walking around the beautiful building, Fabienne Brown, the Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator for the Bachelor of Design explained the many course options and tailored programs to suit individual students within Melbourne University, their overseas learning opportunities, the entry scores that was needed in 2018 (85+) and the many career directions that graduating students getting into. I would urge all Year 11 students to start investigating their career options and going to every university open day programs to ask about pathways that truly suit them before they lock themselves into year 12 subjects next year.
