Parents Association

President's
AGM report
What I love about our Parents Association is that we have a diverse group of parents from across our school, all with a common interest, and prepared to roll up our sleeves to support our teachers and staff. The staff definitely appreciate the work of the PA, whether it is to support them with new teaching resources, or volunteering to help them out with sports or school excursions. The PA is also focused on the future and our goal is to make the school better not just for today, but also for future generations, building on a legacy of so many parents past.
So many people help out during the year that it is hard to single out a few. However, I must thank Sam Rist and our departing secretary Jane Kanizay. I would guess I have sent over 100 emails and 100 text messages to Jane with a request, and she has dealt with them all in her quiet, no fuss manner. Sam has dedicated so much time and effort this year not just as treasurer, but also running the Major Fundraiser which raised over $26,000 for our school. I’m so pleased Sam will be staying on as our treasurer.
Thanks to our dedicated principal Brendan, always there when needed but letting the PA take ownership of our goals. Thank you to Imelda and Ange in the office, they are both extremely busy but always drop everything to help us out.
I would like to thank everyone on the PA committee this year for their amazing hard work and support, I have been blown away by the quick response to help, often without much notice.
As a committee they have arranged morning teas to welcome new families, pre and post baby celebrations, lawn bowls, adventure camp, dads drinks, Mother's Day lunch, Oaks Day lunch, opening school mass morning tea, Major Fundraiser, parents and children class functions, Walkathon, Easter raffle and our end of year Parents Association dinner (on the 14th December all welcome).
I estimate the committee arranged lunches for over 1,000 people, handed out over 500 icy poles, 1,000 bags of popcorn, cooked over 2,000 sausages and on Thursday Dads drinks, well we don’t count those, which may be a good thing.
We have purchased hundreds of books, a new dish washer, new team sports uniforms, updated sporting equipment and provided memorable experiences for our children, including tickets to Matilda the Musical.
I'm hoping the 2017 St James' Parents Association continues to grow and provide great opportunities for our current and future students.
Kind Regards,
Annie O'Donoghue
