Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School provides a range of holistic learning experiences to enable students to:
6.5 Mary the Faithful Disciple. This unit looks at Mary as a faithful disciple and model for the church. Students will explore women of faith and courage, and Mary as a woman of great faith and courage. Students will then review Catholic Marian devotion in art and music.
6.6 The Bible-Our Sacred Story. This unit explores the Bible as our Sacred Scriptures. Students review the great story or our tradition: its significant people and events. The unit also briefly introduces the students to the formation of the Bible.
Students will study a range of texts that relate to the concepts of perspective and context as well as argument and authority. Throughout the term, they will explore how perspective is influenced by personal, social and cultural contexts as well as recognise how an argument is influenced by perspective and create texts that adopt a perspective beyond personal experience.
Students will engage in modelled, shared and independent tasks relating to reading and viewing, writing and representing, responding and composing and speaking and listening. Students will also be taught explicit skills in relation to grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
Students will be following the SoundWaves spelling program and will have the opportunity to revise their spelling skills using the online component of the program.

Flexible learning groups will continue this term for Mathematics. The topics being covered are;
It is expected that all children in Year 6 are practising their timetables regularly. If students are confident in their timetables , they could learn them backwards as division instead, or add a zero to their timetables, e.g. instead of 12 x 2 = 24, learn 120 x 2 = 240.
Students will be learning about the difference between contact and non-contact forces and how energy is transformed from one form to another. Students are provided with an opportunity to investigate how electrical energy can control movement in products and systems. This unit of work will develop students’ abilities to design, test and evaluate a product or system that demonstrates energy transformation, further developing an understanding of the interrelationship between force and energy.
This term students in Kindergarten to Year 6 will continue to participate in the Chinese language program called the Meg Language Program. The Meg Curriculum is written by the co-author of the Australian Curriculum. All students and teachers will participate in the digital learning platform via Zoom weekly sessions with educators in China.
Amadeus Music Education will continue weeklyproviding students with a high-quality music education program. The program offers students expert classroom music lessons, ensemble lessons, and group tuition.
Students will participate in activities in listening, performing, and organising sound, within their regular Classroom Music lessons. Within these lessons, students will:
This term we commence the topic ‘Australia as a Nation’. This topic moves from colonial Australia to the development of Australia as a nation, particularly after 1901. Students explore the factors that led to the Federation and experiences of democracy and citizenship over time. They understand the significance of Australia’s British heritage, the Westminster system and other models that influenced the development of Australia's system of government. Students learn about the way of life of people who migrated to Australia and their contributions to Australia's economic and social development.
In Creative Arts for this Term, Year 6 will participate in 5 weeks of Music and 5 weeks of Drama with Mr Parlato.
During Music lessons, students will be learning the ukulele as well as focusing on music from countries around the world including Greece and India. Students will be learning about notation, composition and some of the elements of music including pitch, dynamics and structure.
During Drama lessons, students will learn to perform a play. Students will use the elements of drama including vocal expression and projection, character creation and costumes to create and perform engaging characters.
Students will also engage in Art lessons this term with their classroom teacher. They will be studying the works of Pablo Picasso who was the most dominant and influential artist of the first half of the 20th century. Students will look at Picasso's work in Cubism, alongside George Braque, and also collage, symbolism and surrealism.
In Term 3, Year 6 students will be involved in a class tournament in which they will be given the opportunity to undertake specific roles, such as being coaches, captains, referees, officials, first aid officers and scorekeepers. This will allow them to demonstrate their leadership and communication skills, while giving them some creative freedom and independence in the implementation of the tournament. The unit will end with a final game for each sport including soccer, netball, oz tag, volleyball and basketball, to showcase the gameplay strategies that they have developed throughout the term.
K-6 students are also participating in Jump Rope for Heart this term, which will focus on skipping for children with sick hearts. If you wish to register use this link to raise funds use this link jumprope.org.au/parents .
In Personal Development this Term, Year 6 will continue with the program Open Parachute. The program aims to reduce stigma and generate authentic dialogue in classrooms about the real issues students face. The psychological skills-building aim to increase empathy, self-compassion, self-awareness, mental health literacy, and self-efficacy in student
Last week students received their new homework for Term 3. A paper version will be provided each week, as well as access to the grid via Google Classroom. The homework grid clearly outlines the tasks that students are expected to complete each week. The students have been made aware of the expectations around the presentation and delivery of their homework. Homework is due each Monday. If your child is unable to complete their homework, please communicate this to their classroom teacher.
It is an expectation that your child is bringing their diary with them to school every day. The diary is a means of communication between home and school, a record of their nightly reading and a useful tool to remind them of important dates.

This Term we welcome two students from the University of Notre Dame. Miss Emily Cole will be working with 6 Gold and Miss Mikayla Duffy with 6 White.
