YLEAD CONFERENCE

CHARLOTTE ANGUS - SCHOOL CAPTAIN

St Mary MacKillop College is very lucky to be able to engage and cooperate in many opportunities that help benefit and develop the students' leadership and independent values. One of those opportunities is the yLead experience. yLead is an interactive setting led by past school leaders, mentors and people who are passionate about shaping the young minds of leaders who can make a change for the better. As school captains we were very lucky to be a part of this moment. In January we were granted the opportunity to participate in the three day Leadership Conference. We focused on many skills throughout the course, such as assessing our strengths and weaknesses and how we could utilise these as a leadership team so that we work seamlessly together. We also worked on public speaking, and many ideas that we could bring back to our school. yLead allowed us to make many new connections that we will have forever, including our squads we were broken into which we still keep in touch with. They also held a retro night, where everyone dressed up for the disco. A highlight was the “night under the stars” which allowed us to get to know each other on a deeper level. We were very grateful for the amazing opportunity which we will never forget.
