SENIOR COMMUNITY A

Firstly, we would like to say a WARM WELCOME to the families and students in our community.

We are pleased to mention that everyone has  settled in well for the beginning of the 2023 school year. We have started the year off with many FUN activities such as, Hip Hop movement classes, Interschool sport team practices, SEL games, house point rewards, cohort meetings and more.

Over the last few weeks we have been establishing the prerequisites for a successful classroom and learning environment. This has included:

  • organising our resources and learning areas.
  • working collaboratively, reviewing our school values, and unpacking our learning workshop models
  • organising our personal reading, building our stamina in writing, revising components of Number and Algebra, learning about the qualities of a fabulous leader, and developing strategies to excel.

Here is a snapshot of some of the learning and activities our students have been engaged in for the set-up program.

Some comments from our students about what they enjoyed most when learning at school last week:

Nisa: I really loved writing about 'The Red Door' because it made me use my imagination.

Emirhan: I liked going to the library to pick our own books because it was really calm and quiet.

In Reading, we have been learning how to be successful readers by following the expectations of the Reading Workshop, setting meaningful goals and working on what independent reading looks, sounds and feels like. We have really enjoyed exploring good-fit reading spots during independent reading.

In Numeracy, we have been having fun working together to problem solve and improve our mathematical reasoning. We are learning to explain the strategies we use to solve addition problems.

We are extremely fortunate to have Bree come and teach us some amazing hip hop moves! She has taught us how movement supports us with our emotional regulation. It is so much fun dancing, moving and laughing with our friends!

Our RHPS Matrix has been designed by students, staff, parents and carers and identifies how we demonstrate our school values of Respect, Honesty, Pride and Success. We use our Matrix in every learning area of the school and explicitly teach what each expectation looks like. You can hear students and staff using the Matrix language to help promote a positive learning environment and to acknowledge students when they are showing the expected behaviours. If you haven’t already, please take some time to get to know our RHPS Matrix!

We look forward to acknowledging our 2023 Student Leaders at our first whole school assembly next week!  Our assembly will take place at 9:00 am on the Hardcourts next Friday the 24th of February. Our School Captains, Vice Captains, House Captains and Junior School Council members have already been working together to develop a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities as leaders and are beginning to share their own ideas and plans for their role this year. The students are very excited to receive their badges and we would love for parents and carers to come along and celebrate this achievement with them!
