Dear Parents and Guardians,
Helping kids become independent learners
We have a whole school focus on building independence. This explores how students can be actively involved in the way they learn and how they evaluate their learning through setting goals and reflective thinking. Our Inquiry learning is designed to allow for students to enter at their own level of understanding and develop their ideas and skills from there.
This is called a differentiated curriculum, which means it allows us to plan and cater for all levels of students in the one class. It also means that we can work on topics that really interest students, expand their horizons and develop their critical and analytical skills.
Students have amazing questions they want to explore and we have developed a process that helps students become action researchers into their world while also extending and developing their learning horizons.
In this newsletter I have included Child safe tips in the community page. Pat Lynch is our Child safe Officer and can be contacted re any concern about child safety.
Getting involved in school life
Included in all newsletters is a 2 monthly calendar to keep you informed of upcoming events and to support families in planning their times and educational conversations with their children . We are continually trying to improve the newsletter and our advertising of events and hope that this will help families to plan ahead for school events. Our website is online so that parents can access copies of newsletters, notes ect. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the website please let us know and we will try to include them.

. School Council Election Process for 2023
This document outlines the School Council Election process for Roxburgh Homestead Primary school.
The principal will issue a notice and call for nominations on the 17th of February 2023. For parents, this notice will probably be given to your child so you may need to check with them whether it has been sent home.
If you decide to stand for election, you will need to arrange to be nominated and seconded by persons who are eligible for the same category as you will stand for. The principal can provide information about these categories.
Once the nomination form is completed, return it to the principal within the time stated on the notice of election.
If there are more nominations received than there are vacancies on council, a ballot will be conducted in the two weeks after the call for nominations has closed.

Personal Property
Personal property is often brought to school by student’s staff and visitors. They can include mobile phones, calculators and toys, sporting equipment and items of family or personal importance. Please note that that private property brought to school is not insured and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. At DPS we encourage children not to bring any valuable items to school
Reminder to all students riding their bikes or scooters to school. You must have a bike lock and secure your property in the bike shed. Our bike shed is locked every morning and not opened until home time however to ensure complete security you must secure your bike etc with your own combination lock
Accident Insurance
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are generally responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs, unless the injury is caused by negligence (carelessness) of a Department or school council employee or volunteer.
Student accident insurance policies are available from the private insurance market. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare.. They need to be obtained and paid for by parents of individual students. This school does not have a whole of school insurance policy.
