Parent Engagement

Fundraising/ Social Events

A big thank you for all the donations and volunteers on Saturday at our Mother’s Day Street Stall. Despite the chilly weather, this was a successful stall, with a lot of locals and tourists stopping by. Figures are still to be finalised.

This Friday we will be holding a Zoom session to review the Easter Food Stall. If you would like to be part of this discussion or are unable to attend and have any feedback please let me know. We also hope to narrow down a focus for a social event later this term.

Learning Walks

At St. Joseph’s, we value the way that staff and families communicate with each other. We would like to continue our connections with families by inviting you to attend our first Learning Walk, this term.

What’s the purpose of our Learning Walks?

We aim to provide the opportunity and time for feedback for our parents, carers, grandparents and friends to gain a greater understanding of how learning and teaching happen at St. Joseph’s. We know that when families are connected to the school, the children benefit from this support by being more engaged in their learning.

How long does the Learning Walk take?

The Learning Walks will be no more than one hour. If you can only pop in for some of this time then that is fine. Our staff and students would love to see you! The teachers choose an area of the curriculum that they would like to show their families and friends, beginning with Phonics & Spelling this term.

You don’t need to register that you are coming - just come along at the time indicated for that Learning Walk!

What happens at a Learning Walk?

  1. A staff member will introduce the session and explain the activities that will be seen on the Learning Walk so that parents know the purpose of the lessons.
  2. Family members are encouraged to move around all the classrooms involved in the Learning Walk to talk to students engaged in their learning and find out more about the activity.
  3. After 15 - 20 mins, family and friends are invited to come back to the central space for follow up discussion about the activities they have seen. This is a great opportunity for wonderings to be shared! We really appreciate the feedback that we receive from family and friends at these walks!
