Mindfulness in Focus

Dear Parents and Carers,

 

Our students are in the midst of our whole school mindfulness focus.  Each week they have engaged in learning activities that have taught them strategies to manage stress, to be calm and to have a happy mind.  These have included lessons on breathing techniques, the impact of positive self-talk, coping strategies and things we can do to lift our mood and recognise the stressors in our lives.  In some levels students have engaged in cloud dreaming, mindful movement activities and the use of music to affect mood.

Year 4 Wellbeing Program

This term, the Year 4s are learning about yoga and how this can support their wellbeing. The children have been working through a series of poses and learning about their physical benefits. For the first two sessions, the children have been learning how to do the Sun Salutation and have practised poses linking to the themes of the stars & constellations as well as animals around the world.

The children are also realising that yoga is more than just the physical poses.   Yoga is beneficial for learning life lessons. Every yoga class has an intention and last week the session focused on believing in ourselves and this week the focus was the importance of celebrating the success of others.

Finally, the children have been engaging in mindfulness activities and learning to use breath work to connect to themselves, build focus and an awareness of the present moment.
