Primary Report

From the Primary Office

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week in Australia. National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and this year’s theme is ‘Better Together’.

Volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone. National Volunteer Week is a chance for all of us to celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say thank you.

Together, through volunteering, we are changing communities for the better. We are, Better Together. The commitment of registered volunteers at Moama Anglican Grammar is greatly appreciated and we would like to sincerely thank all our registered volunteers for all the work they do to better our school community which provides opportunities for our students.

Message from the Office

Currently, we have a lot of items in lost property, looking to be reunited with their rightful owners. If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to visit our lost property in the Primary School office.

We would like to remind parents to read and action any eForm permissions emailed to you in a timely manner. We continue to be involved in lots of activities and programs and for these programs to run smoothly, permission is required. This allows us to plan ahead and be organised to ensure the students can experience these great initiatives and activities. Currently there are many outstanding notices for the Year 3/4 Swimming Program and the Year 5/6 Netball Tournament. Please check your emails and get back to us as soon as possible. We thank you for your support with this.

Grammar Experience

From next week, our Grammar experiences are scheduled to take place. We welcome our 2023 Kindergarten students and families on Wednesday 25 and Friday 27 May. Students will engage in classroom workshops whilst their parents attend a School tour and information session. On Monday 30 May we welcome students who will start at our school in 2023. Do you know someone new to the area or someone considering a change? Please feel free to share the flyer.

Primary Chapel

Last Friday, we met as a Primary School for our Ascension Chapel. After the empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus at Easter, the Bible tells us that Jesus spent 40 days with his friends. He ate with them, he taught them and after giving them final instructions, he ascended into Heaven. The message explained how Jesus instructed His friends to go out and share the Good News of forgiveness through faith in Jesus. They were also to teach people how to be followers of Jesus and live God’s way. In Week 7, we will have our Pentecost Chapel which involves fire and wind.

University of Melbourne (UOM) Psychology Clinic

Our School has been fortunate for many years to utilise the professional services of the UOM Psychology Clinic. Dr Chelsea Hyde, the clinic manager and her team are scheduled to visit Moama Anglican Grammar from 6 June to 8 June to conduct educational psychology assessment services for selected students.

The regional clinic provides educational assessment services to communities in regional Victoria. Psychological assessments are conducted by provisional psychologists who are currently undertaking advanced training in the Master of Educational Psychology program at the University of Melbourne. All services are closely supervised by a team of lecturers and highly-experienced registered psychologists, all of whom hold endorsement in educational and developmental psychology and registration as supervisors with the Psychology Board of Australia. The clinic offers psycho-educational assessments for children and adolescents that measure a profile of cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses.

Assessments explore difficulties in intellectual functioning, learning, memory, academic ability, attention and concentration that can help identify specific learning disorders, intellectual disability or other developmental disorders. Assessments can also identify superior intellectual functioning (often referred to as giftedness) and inform recommendations to inform positive learning outcomes and social and emotional development. Children are generally referred for psychological assessments when they are having difficulties at school. The aim is to conduct an assessment that takes into account information from a number of sources (e.g. parents, teachers, child) and considers different possibilities for the difficulties. Recommendations are designed to assist children, their families and schools to achieve positive outcomes. If further referral is required, this will be indicated in the report.

Families are provided with a written report which lists the results and individualised recommended strategies which are instrumental in providing individualised support for students at school. If you have any questions about this service, please contact Mel Scott, our Head of Teaching and Learning Primary via mscott@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au

Year 3/4 Swimming Program

The program will be conducted by qualified and experienced swimming instructors from the Campaspe Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Echuca. Students will engage in a lesson for 30 minutes each day throughout this week.

School swimming and water safety programs give primary students in NSW schools the opportunity to learn vital swimming and water safety skills. Our Kindergarten to Year 2 students have been booked in later this year from Monday 8 August until Friday 12 August.
