GRPS National Walk Safely to School Day
Friday 20th May
The objectives of National Walk Safely to School Day are:
• To encourage parents and carers to walk regularly with their children, all or part of the way to school
• To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits
• To help children develop vital road crossing skills and ensure children up to the age of 10 years hold an adult's hand when crossing the road
• To reduce car dependency and traffic congestion, especially around schools
• To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles
• To promote the use of public transport
The message for this year is ‘Until they’re ten, children must always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road’.
To participate at GRPS all students need to do is be active on their way to school on Friday 20th May and then notify their teacher when they arrive. There will be a small prize for the class with the most active students that day and all students participating will get a walk to school temporary tattoo.
Being active to school doesn’t just have to be walking, it could be:
The Great Ryrie Green Team can’t wait to see how many students will participate on the day!
