CROSS COUNTRY
2022 Zone Cross Country
The 2022 Northcote Zone Cross Country took place at Bundoora Park on Tuesday May 24. The event included 11 schools from the Darebin area. Children in ages 9 to 12 represented their schools and ran in long distance races covering 2km as well as 3km. Our school team represented St Joseph’s with great energy and spirit. They demonstrated the type of Learning Qualities we hold dear such as determination and collaboration.
Here are reflections of some of our participants:
“ I ran in the boys 12 and over race and I placed 40th out of more than 70 people. My time for 3km was 19 minutes. I stopped once for about 5 seconds because I just needed a break and then I jogged for the rest of the race. At the end of the race my legs were pretty sore but after a few minutes they felt a lot better. If I had the chance I would do it again in Year 7 next year”. Jordan Fernandez
“ Yesterday I ran in the 11 year old girls race. I was originally coming first because I was sprinting then I peaked out and slowed down. It was really hot and really hard to run, but in the end I came 46th. The course is really hilly but it was easier than last year because last year it was really slippery because it was raining just before the race. Overall I really liked the experience and I would definitely do it again next year.” Klara Nakic
“I ran the girls 12 and 13 race and I was placed 37th. Even though I was very hot and sweaty I persevered. In the beginning I started off slow and at the end I sprinted. Originally, I felt very exhausted and had multiple stitches, but I made it in the end. When I was done my legs felt very overworked and like jelly, but the next day they felt okay. I found it a lot better than last year because the ground was less slippery. I really liked doing it this year and I may even do it again.” Maria Parisis
