MIDDLES' CLASS NEWS

Middles are Proudly Persuasive!

In Middles we have been learning how to use persuasive devices such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, personal pronouns, facts and exaggeration to convince our reader. We shared some of our favourite sentences on an online Padlet (see screenshots of this below). These come from our writing pieces that make arguments such as “Country Life is Better Than City Life”, “Lollies are Better Than Chocolate”, “Children Should Not Have Homework” and “Video Games are Good For Children”. The students have also had great fun debating each other!

Here are some more sentences written by students that display some amazing persuasive language!

“It is easy to see why we should get a school pet to help people when they are stuck and need a break” - Sienna

“We all know that homework should be banned because kids could be playing after a hard day’s work” - Elektra

“I strongly believe that dogs are better than cats because of their loving personalities and good attitude” - James

“Kids should be allowed to wear earrings at school. Can’t you see that earrings are so fun to wear? They make me feel different and unique” - Frankie
