Year 10 Captains' Report

With the first term now over, we can now look back to consider what exactly just happened.

Since the last update, we’ve had a multitude of events, a mix of minor and major. Kicking off with the Science excursion at the Yarra Ranges Tech School, students had the opportunity to explore the possibilities provided by YRTS and to time to play around with VR, which was one of the highlights of the day.

Following on from the Tech School, Year 10 and 11 Business Management students hosted our yearly Market Day. This was another resounding success, repeating the pattern that the previous business students have left behind. Shout out to Tasty Toasties, for making the most profit.

Students studying VCE subjects sat their first SAC in the past 3 weeks, bringing on the nerves of major assessments that we haven’t felt in a while. We all look forward to getting feedback from our teachers so that we can continue to improve our study habits on our journey towards fully entering VCE next year.

The next event that sent waves of excitement through the year level was the announcement of Year 10 camp. This year’s camp is a six-day Victoria tour, visiting Otway Ranges, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Echuca and Mt Macedon.  We are looking forward to being able to have a trip away from home as a year level, after missing out last year. Details of the camp can be found on Compass, with the first payment due Monday 19 April.

Last week, we had the Holocaust incursion. Due to similar circumstances affecting our camp, the Holocaust incursion was turned into a virtual tour which included, a  museum tour, a workshopping session and a survivor Q+A. This was made so we could explore similar things as would be covered, if we were there in person. Going over this dark topic allowed us to gain knowledge of the past so that we may excel in our classes, but also in the future as a society.

Finally in Home Groups, we completed the Safety Survey, where we were asked to provide some feedback on our experiences during school time.

All things considered, the past few weeks have been a treasure trove of new opportunities, information and well-cooked food, shadowed only by the SACs.

Looking forward, we do have the school holidays, a welcome reprieve to the stress of Year 10.
