SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

There are so many ways that our parent community support our school. One way that you can support your child and their learning is to get involved, promote learning and have conversations with your children. If you were after ideas how to support your child the below link provides numeracy and literacy tips to  support parents of students aged 0-12 years.

How to:  the way we teach certain concepts today may be different to how you learnt to do them at school, especially in mathematics.  For example: Subtraction with regrouping (borrowing or trading). Below is an excellent link that explains how we teach subtraction today using regrouping:

HOME LEARNING

A friendly reminder to all parents about our expectations for home learning in Grades 3 to 6.  As stated in our Home Learning Policy (available on our school website), home learning is an opportunity for students to reinforce and practise their reading and number skills taught in the classroom. It also supports students to develop their time management skills in preparation for secondary school.

It is expected that students in the senior levels (years 3-6) read for 30 minutes a day (Monday to Thursday).

For Maths, students in years 3 - 4 are to complete two My Numeracy modules and years 5 – 6 three My Numeracy modules from Essential Assessment. These activities are differentiated and aim to consolidate what the students are covering in class. If your child is having difficulty with a task, please direct them to the tutorial that explains the activity. If this does not help your child, have them screen shot the question/s they are having trouble with. Their teacher can spend time in class to explain the task or to modify their level.

We understand that people have busy schedules/weeks and if your child is not able to complete their home learning, please drop their teacher an email letting them know.

Thank you for your time and support. If you have any questions, please contact your classroom teacher.
