School Council President

From the president

Hope everyone is getting back into the groove for Term 2.  I’m excited to have new council members onboard and coming up to speed.  We also have chair people for each of our subcommittees, which is fantastic.  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered. If you are interested in being involved please don't hesitate to call me.

Join Parents Club

We’re starting up a Parents Club this year (the new name for Parents and Friends Committee).  We need 6 people to officially start, and we’re nearly there already.  If you’d like to join in the fun, please drop me an email.  Anyone is welcome to join, but for those with children in the early grades, it’s a great time to get engaged in school life and meet other families in an enjoyable and light hearted setting.

Proposed Child Care Centre

You may have seen planning permits up on two houses across the road from school on Almond St. These permits are for the building of a new child care centre. We became aware of this in the middle of last year and have been in communication with Boroondara Council regarding this development. I invited feedback from the school community at the time and took that on board in a written objection which I submitted in September last year. While we generally feel that the child care centre would have some benefits for the community there are certainly some concerns around traffic levels and traffic management, parking, and the safety of our children and families as they arrive and depart from school.

You can view the application and associated documentation here: https://eservices.boroondara.vic.gov.au/EPlanning/Common/Common/terms.aspx enter the permit number pp19/0712.

You are encouraged to consider making your own submission to Boroondara Council using the link above.  I will continue to liaise with the Boroondara Council on behalf of the school and keep you informed through the newsletter.

Calling out bad behaviour

There have been a number of incidents reported where parents and carers have been exhibiting dangerous behavior with vehicles around the school.  This includes parking/stopping on corners and in no standing areas and dropping children on the wrong side of the street.  This is not acceptable and you can expect to be called out if you act in a way that endangers others.  Please be safe and considerate.

As always, please feel free to drop me an email, call or sms.  greg@ripegroup.com or 0413 701 032.
