Many Term 2 Activities in Active Travel!

There is so much happening in Active Travel in Term 2. Walk and Wheel Wednesday has started again, Dr Cranky starts on Wednesday 5th May and the 'Learning how to ride a bike' Program starts on Wednesday 5th of May too! To find out more about each activity, please read below.

Walk and Wheel Wednesday

Walk and Wheel Wednesday has started again!

In Week 1, 3RP were the class with the most walkers and wheelers on 84%. 4CB came in 2nd on 71% and 4JT came in 3rd on 67%.

This week on 92%, 3RP were the winning class again! 3RO came in 2nd with 76% of the class walking and wheeling to school and 4CB were just behind them, on 74%.

Well done to everyone who continues to walk and wheel every day and I wonder who will be the Walk and Wheel Wednesday winners next week? The more walkers and wheelers we have, means:

  • the roads around the school are less congested,
  • the walkers and wheelers are safer walking and wheeling to school, and
  • students who are walking and wheeling are creating good endorphins that boost general well being.

Dr Cranky's starts next Wednesday 5th May

On Wednesday mornings from the 5th of May, you will see parents from 1ET, repairing bikes that have been recycled.

Dr Cranky’s is part of the BREAKS (Bicycle Recycling and Engagement for Active Kids at Schools) project. It is a partnership with the Boroondara Council, local schools, and VicHealth.  Dr Cranky’s has been helping schools since 2014 to recycle over 2400 bikes at 15 schools.

It is a program that will support more students to ride more often. It does this by helping parent volunteers like Michael, Steve, Steve and Dan from 1ET, recycle and repair bikes within the community to ensure every child has access to a working bike.

If you would like to assist or if you have an old bike that you would like to donate to the program, please contact Mrs Ballot or myself.

We will be down helping the parent volunteers from 1ET on Wednesday morning’s from 8:30am in front of the hall. The more parents we have to help and the more bikes we have to repair and recycle, then more children will have access to working bikes.

We look forward to seeing you drop by and possibly join us in repairing bikes on Wednesday mornings from the 5th of May.

Learn to Ride a Bike Program

Thank you to everyone who has emailed me to put their child's name down for the 'Learn to Ride a Bike' Program.

I have had emails from nearly 50 parents and the program is full!

As there is a limited number of bikes, a schedule is being created so that students can attend 3 weeks in a row. I will  be emailing this schedule to parents over the next few days.

There will only be 8 students scheduled to attend each week and the student leaders will support me to teach children how to ride a bike.

Students may bring their own helmets if they would like to when they attend their scheduled time, and we do have helmets at school too.

The program commences next Wednesday 5th May at lunchtimes and it will run during Terms 2 and 3.

Thank you everyone!
