A Word from the Principal

Fiona Nolan

Last week we farewelled our Year 10 students.  So many emotions were evident throughout the week - sadness, joy and excitement. As the students cried and laughed with family and staff, the sense of community and of belonging to a place that is bigger than all of us was clearly making it’s mark. Students suddenly realised that the routines that they had developed over years would change. Every morning they had come to a place that they were familiar with, working with staff that they knew. This week, most of them will have started a new journey - they will have woken up and headed to Guilford Young College to meet the staff that would help them finish their senior schooling. The realisation that the familiar would be irrevocably changed was not lost on their young hearts and they were very keen to let us know that they felt they belonged to Mount Carmel. They had etched their names on the heart of this community.

That belonging doesn’t go away - once a Mount Carmel girl ALWAYS a Mount Carmel girl. Their role changes from student to Alumni.

I also extend my congratulations to the College Student Leadership team for 2023. The field this year was incredibly strong. I thank all the students who put their hand up and their hearts into a speech. It was wonderful to see their commitment to Mount Carmel and to the student community.

Staffing continues to be a focus for the College Leadership team and staff will be confirmed in correspondence in early 2023.

We also welcome two delightful additions to our extended family with Jake Glade-Wright joining Belinda, Michael and Lila on the 28 November.

Phoebe and her husband Grant welcomed Sadie on the 6 December.

As we head into the third week of advent, the candles of Hope and peace have already been lit. Our focus turns now to joy and love. Advent is a time  for waiting and preparation. The year has come to a quick close and we head now to the final few days. What are you waiting for?  What are you hoping for? What will you LOVE? What brings you JOY?

Whatever it is, I pray that you will find it on Christmas Day and throughout 2023.  Merry Christmas.
