School Monitor Road Crossing Training

The SA Police Road Safety Centre is a leader in road safety education and contributes to a reduction in the frequency and severity of road trauma in South Australia.

Recently the students in Year 4 and 5 took part in School Crossing Monitor Training. This training is delivered to students in year 4 and 5, teachers and school volunteers who want to operate a school crossing or pedestrian-activated traffic lights.

This training was provided by a member of the South Australia Police Road Safety Centre and educated students on how to safely stop vehicles approaching a school crossing to facilitate the safe crossing of pedestrians. All participants will receive a certificate issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, authorising them to be school crossing monitors.

We ask all parents/guardians to take the time to talk to their children about road safety. It is important that all parents/guardians are good road safety role models and we encourage you to discuss with your child what they learnt from the road safety session.

Playground Update

Our new Nature Play Playground on the oval is coming along slowly due to the unusual rainy weather we have had over this past month. The timeline for completion has been pushed back and it is likely that this will now be into December for a finish date.

A large portion of the new playground is the ‘nature’ areas that use the natural environment to stimulate creativity and multiple interpretations in play rather than lots of ‘playground equipment’ that have one main function and use. Once established with the trees and plants it will be a lovely ‘forest like’ area for our children to play, explore and imagine in.

Due to this our End of Year Concert will be moved slightly with the main stage now being the under gym verandah area. We will keep all of our fingers and toes crossed for a dry stretch with no rain from Sunday 4th December so the lawn area has a chance to dry out for everyone to sit on!

Information for Parents/Carers

Please contact Principal Sally Slattery if you have any questions.

MEDICATIONS

If your child has any health/medical challenges please complete a Health Care Plan via your GP and provide a copy to the school ASAP, preferably to Lee in the front Office. These need to be updated each year and all medications must be kept in the front office, not in students school bags. Please make sure any previous years medication kept in the office has not expired/is out of date.

We are a ‘Nut Aware School’ – whilst we do not ‘ban’ nut or other allergen foods at our school, please be mindful if teachers communicate that there is a child with a severe allergy in your child’s class to provide alternatives if you can. Please check in with the teacher if you have any questions regarding this.

Thank you!
