French

Term 4

Bonjour tout le monde!

This term, Castle students learnt and revised French names for parts of the body (le corps). They played games, sang songs, participated in different activities and demonstrated their learning in a variety of ways. Students will now be learning about ‘Noël’ (French Christmas) and compare French traditions with their own. They will also learn some key Christmas words in French and use these to write short sentences.

In Holly, students learnt about French money (l’argent) and what French notes (les billets) and coins (les pièces) look like. They enjoyed learning about the Euro while playing the “Euro Run Game”. After this, students explored a French online store and chose a variety of toys to put on their Christmas wish-list. They discovered that many toys sold in France are the same or similar to what we have in Australia. Now students will discuss ‘Noël’, learn key words and compare French Christmas to their own celebrations at home.

This term in Stillwell, students were introduced to some French street artists. They learnt about Fuzi, JR and Invader and made artwork inspired by each. In Week 5, Stillwell students “invaded” the school with a variety of creatures. During this week, all classes had the opportunity to use a visual checklist and find as many creatures as they could. It was truly wonderful to see the students enjoying this task. To celebrate the end of the year, 4/5 students taste-tested and reviewed some French foods, such as croissants, macarons and madeleines. Mr Cronin’s Year 6s made “Bûche de Noëls” and took these home to share with their families.

I wish all of our year 6 students “bonne chance” for their time in high school and would like to thank them for all of the wonderful years shared in the French classroom. I hope that they continue to use their courage and persistence in any future language learning and perhaps that some may even visit France one day!

To the rest of our families, I wish you un Joyeux Noël et une Bonne Année and I’ll see you next year!

Merci,

Madame Mawson
