Principals Message

Koreena Carlton

Welcome to the final Newsletter for 2022. What a year it has been, many would say just as challenging as the past two years of the Covid pandemic. I am extremely excited to be sharing the news with everyone that I have been made the substantive Principal at Debney Meadows Primary School. I feel absolutely honoured to be working so closely with our school community to take Debney Meadows into the next chapter of its journey. We have already seen great success in the work that we are doing, our school NAPLAN data has increased, our students are engaged and our community is feeling connected. Debney Meadows is definitely the school to be at and our community agrees! We are going up two classes next year with such an increase in enrolments. This is very exciting for our school as it provides even more opportunities. Next year we will not deviate away from our school plan or increasing Learning Outcomes, Connecting our Community and Happy, Healthy Students with a focus on School Wide Positive Behaviours and our newly introduced School Values.

Zoo Excursion

It was so great to attend the excursion to the Zoo as a whole school including our new 2023 Preps! Together we were able to explore different exhibits, see lots of animals and reptiles and connect with each other. The weather held off for most of the day and it was fantastic to spend some time out of the school and learning through doing. The highlight was definitely enjoying lunch together and hearing all the students talk about their favourite animals and what they had seen. I want to acknowledge the amazing leadership of our older students who attached themselves to the younger classes. You were absolutely amazing and I was so proud of each and every one of you! How lucky our younger students are to have such kind, caring and responsible leaders.

Prep Transition

We have welcomed our 2023 Prep students to the school over the past three terms and they are definitely school ready. This is a very exciting time for our new students and their families and it has been nice to see so many smiling faces both at the beginning and end of each transition session. All of our new Preps are invited to attend the Step Up Day to meet their teacher and collect a very special Prep Show Bag and T-Shirt!

Step Up day – Tuesday 13th December

All of students in Grades Prep to Grade 5 will be participating in the Whole School Step Up Day while our Grade 6’s will be attending their new High School. Students will be meeting their new teachers for 2023 and their classmates. I am very excited to announce the new names of our classes sticking with the native flora theme:

Daisy: Prep/1

Wattle: 2-4

Lilly Pilly: 2-4

Grevillea: 5-6

Students will start the day in their homerooms before moving to their new classrooms and meeting their teacher and classmates for their 2023 class. It is a very exciting time.

Year 6 Graduation

Over the last week, families of students in Grade 6 have had information communicated regarding graduation. Please refer to Compass regarding the specific information including the end of year Grade 6 Special Celebration Day. This is a free event covered by the school however consent must be provided.

We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our students and their families.
