Junior School

From the Head of Junior School

Early Childhood Centre Beach Fun Day

The Early Childhood Centre Beach Fun Day at Emu Point was blessed with ideal weather on Wednesday 30 November. Students from Kindergarten to Year Two, together with Year Six House leaders, enjoyed a morning filled with beach activities including parachute games, sandcastle making, relays, tag games, frisbee throwing, continuous cricket, and playground climbing.

The smiles on everyone’s faces were golden, and the perfect way to celebrate the end of 2022 together. Year Six House leaders were wonderful in leading a small group throughout all the activities. It was their final ‘formal’ duty as leaders of the Junior School.

Many families joined their children for a picnic after the beach activities, which was just gorgeous along the grass underneath the shady trees. Well done to all the ECC staff for their efforts in preparing the day and running it so successfully, and to families for supporting the morning. Congratulations to the students for such a great morning, and to push on to swimming lessons afterward – what a big day!

Year Five - Afternoon of the Notables of Colonisation

As part of their inquiry ‘Where we are in place and time’ which is heavily influenced in the Humanities subject of History, the Year Five cohort explored the Swan River colony during the 1800s period. Last Friday 25 November, each Year Five student assumed the persona of a notable figure from that time period and presented a display sharing information from that era and about their character, including their motivations and actions (e.g., groups such as explorers, farmers, pastoralists, convicts or individuals such as James Stirling, John Septimus Roe, Thomas Peel).

Each student prepared a newspaper article, letter, and poem featuring their notable person, with many students also dressing up to assume the role as authentically as they could. Year Five students also constructed an enormous diorama display for their design technologies component of the project to depict the Swan River colony in the 1800s beginning at Fremantle and following the river into the hills. The Year Five students presented a wonderful display and welcomed students from all classes to visit, view, and ask questions about their notable characters, before families were invited to attend after school. This was a tremendous inquiry learning experience for the students who now have a much greater appreciation for life during that period in our Western Australian history.

Into the Final Week

On Monday 5 December, families are invited to attend a whole school Christmas Service at 10.15am in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex. Our Year One students will be performing a nativity play.

Tuesday 6 December is the final school day for Junior School students. Parents are warmly invited to attend the Junior School Awards Ceremony commencing at 9.00am in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex, followed by a P&F morning tea at 10.30am, then the Christmas Concert at 11.00am, also in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex. The Christmas Concert is a very special event where each class presents a performance item for our community. These occasions are a fabulous way to celebrate the year and wish everyone a Merry Christmas for the break period.
