Italian festa and World Cup fever - fantastico!

Martedì - Tuesday was a fantastic day of celebration of Italian learning for School of Wonder children. They were invited to wear colours of the World Cup country they have been researching and completing activities about in class or their favourite soccer team colours. There were some fantastic creative outfits and wonderful colori - colours on display. The children were engaged in calcio - soccer sessions led by Adam Gatcum from Skillzone. He provided a great Coppa del Mondo - World Cup atmosphere with music and mini games being played.

Children also tested their Italian language and culture skills by ordering pasta in our pop-up World Cup soccer-themed restaurant. Children were able to order pasta alla napoletana - pasta with a plain tomato sauce or pasta in bianco - plain pasta with olive oil and parmesan cheese. They were served in the pop-up restaurant by our wonderful Year 10 Italian students who volunteered their time to help out on the day. Their excitement and enthusiasm was amazing to see and everyone did an amazing job using their Italian skills and remembering what they had learnt about different pasta shapes. The children were also impressed to hear their Learning Mentors and Learning Support Officers engage in the activity by ordering pasta in Italian as well. It was a fantastic day to reward the children for their achievements this year.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff who have ensured the children were able to continue to engage in their Italian learning while I've been away. A special thank you to Languages Assistant Debbie Mori who organised the day and made sure resources and planned activities were passed on to children during Terms 3 and 4. Thank you to all the parents and carers for continuing to support your children with their language learning. I hope they've been able to share some of their learning with you at home. I am very grateful to have been able to share the day with everyone. Grazie mille!

Picnic concert to celebrate spirit of Christmas

Some of the items that will be for sale at the Christmas community picnic concert in aid of the less fortunate in our community.
Some of the items that will be for sale at the Christmas community picnic concert in aid of the less fortunate in our community.

Our School of Wonder children have been enthusiastically rehearsing Christmas songs for their upcoming performance at the St Anne's College Christmas community picnic concert to be held on Thursday, December 8 on the north-east lawn area at the college. The children have also been busy creating Christmas ornaments and decorations to sell at a stall that Year 3 children will be running prior to the concert commencing. Year 3 children have been learning about money and this will be an opportunity for them to transfer their learning to the community.

Items created by children in all School of Wonder year levels will be available to purchase at the stall, which will be operating from 5:00pm to 5:30pm. Families of Foundation and Year 1 children will have the opportunity to purchase personalised items created by their children. Years 2 and 3 children have created a variety of general Christmas items that will be available for purchase by the community (please note these are not personalised gifts for families, but general items that can be purchased by anyone attending the community picnic concert).

People wishing to make purchases at the stall will need to pay with small denominations of cash, with the maximum cost of items being $5. All proceeds from the stall will go to the St Vincent de Paul Giving Tree Gift Card Drive. If you are able to, please support our children in their efforts to support the needy in our community.

The Christmas community picnic concert is a BYO dinner, drinks and seating event and all students attending must be supervised by a family member. The St Anne's Sports Association will be selling icy-poles at the picnic concert as a fundraising activity. Please note that this is strictly an alcohol-free, drug-free and smoke-free event.

We look forward to sharing the talents of our School of Wonder children with the community in the lead-up to Christmas.

Wear your pyjamas to school!

School of Wonder Year 3 children Gurekam and Matilda came up with the idea of a Pyjama Day for School of Wonder to raise funds for the St Vincent de Paul Giving Tree Gift Card Drive. Pyjama Day will be held on Friday, December 9. Children are asked to bring a gold coin donation on the day. Please see the flyer designed by Gurekam and Matilda below for more information. Well done girls for coming up with a fun way to raise money to support the less fortunate in our community.
