Deputy Principal-Mel Walker

I am very excited to be here at Mukinbudin District High School. As a country girl who has been living in the city for years, it is lovely to be in such a welcoming, friendly and tidy town.  I come to MDHS from Eaton Community College where I was teaching high school English. I have spent time in Bridgetown working as Workplace Learning Supervisor and filling in as Deputy as required. Most of my teaching career was at Harvey Senior High School where I held a variety of roles, teacher, Year Coordinator, Engagement Program Coordinator, Student Services Manager. I even spent a year at Kalumburu Remote Community School – the second most remote community in Australia.

I am a mother of four children and grandmother to three gorgeous granddaughters.  My husband, Mark, will be spending time with me in town and we look forward to exploring the area together.  When I am not working, I volunteer as a manager of state basketball teams.  This volunteering has seen me visit various venues in Australia - Townsville, Ballarat, Sydney and in April this year Brisbane.

I look forward to getting to know the children in our school, the parents, the wider community and forming positive relationships with you all.

Year 1/2- Miss Kayla Barnes

Hello! My name is Kayla, and I am a graduate early childhood teacher, who has just moved to Mukinbudin from Perth. I am passionate about early childhood teaching and how special, exciting and fun the early years of school are. I love to read, garden, sew and enjoy crafting and creating things! When I was younger, I played footy and netball. Dancing was my main hobby, I did this for 17 years and I absolutely loved it, especially tap and jazz. I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new special memories throughout the year in Muka!

Year 3/4- Miss Karen Wright

Hello Everyone!

My name is Karen Wright and I have just moved to Mukinbudin to work in the fabulous Year 3/4 class! I have only been a teacher for 2 years and before that worked as an EA for a long time.

I was born in Three Springs but grew up in Exmouth. I have two grown up daughters in Perth who are both nurses.

When I’m not working at school my hobbies are reading, dog walking, dog grooming, dog training and anything else dog! I also like to plant trees and flowers.

I’m looking forward to getting to know and working with everyone in 2023!

Year 5/6- Alen Galic

My name is Alen Galic, I came to Australia from Bosnia when I was five years old and have lived in Western Australia ever since. For the last decade I've lived in Craigie north of the river. Before completing my Masters of Teaching I studied Psychology, Criminology and Justice. I have always had a long-seated,, desire to teach born from many positive role models in my life, but it was only recently that I finally found the opportunity to undertake the study. I'm very excited to teach in a town like Mukinbudin; I have fond memories of my own primary education in a rural town called Leinster where I spent several years and have always wanted to explore the opportunities uniquely available in the country.

I am a graduate teacher that specialized in mathematics in my final semester. My teaching approach is built upon explicit instruction, reviewing the learning of students,, and adjusting my lessons as necessary to ensure that every student is given the support or extension that they need to flourish. I believe in a classroom built upon respect and trust, where students are confident in asking questions and requesting elaboration if they're uncertain about a topic. As a teacher I am a life-long learner and want to emphasize to my students that we are all constantly learning.

This couples favorably with my interest in exploring, sightseeing,, and enjoying long walks to unwind; I'm especially looking forward to seeing all of the tourist attractions once the weather cools. I find it difficult to enjoy myself more than a relaxing day spent reading or writing my own works of fiction, exploring new literary mediums, and discovering different authors in the realms of mystery, thriller and fantasy. Finally, I enjoy all sorts of puzzles, riddles, and word problems, both logic and lateral thinking. Looking forward to meeting with and getting to know all of you.
