Principal's Update

Principal's Report

NAPLAN has been and gone. For the first time Mornington Secondary College conducted NAPLAN online and due to excellent preparation from Bryce Taylor (Numeracy Leader) and Jackie Lewis (Literacy Leader), NAPLAN was very successful. Students in Year 7 and 9 participated in two mini NAPLAN sessions prior to the actual tests. This was to discover any technical difficulties and have our students comfortable with the log on procedures.

Many of our students have participated in Interschool sports and have been extremely successful. Well done to all the students concerned and thankyou to the staff who give up their time willingly to coach students often outside of school hours. Year 7 students also participated in the annual cross country with the Monash Immersion students. It was a great afternoon, with many students reaching their personal best.

Our students continue to make us proud as they represent us in the local community. Eilidh Stewart, Yr 11 applied for and was successful in gaining funding from Mornington Rotary Club for the National Youth Science Forum. Eilidh was asked to present at a Rotary dinner. She was asked a series of tough Science questions and was able to answer each one confidently.

MUNA 2019 is an event where students are selected to participate in a Mock United Nations event. Each school is given a country and they need to research issues related to this country and then debate against other students at other schools. This is often performed at Parliament House, this year MUNA was held on Phillip Island, and all students dress in national costume. This event is also sponsored by Rotary and this year, Rotary sponsored 54 delegates representing 27 countries. The debating was excellent and all student represented their school in an excellent manner. Our delegates were Clare Hendy and Ethan Turner, Yr 11.

Sophie Morey, 2018 Alumni, has recently received an offer to study and play basketball at Bethany College in West Virginia, USA.    Sophie will be completing a 4 year Political Science Degree.  Bethany College have invited Sophie to apply for their Honors Program, which is a first for an Australian student.  We are very proud of her achievements.
