Duke of Edinburgh's Award 

Information Night - Wednesday 18 March 6pm

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a world-wide and highly prestigious service award which aims to establish leadership and initiative in students and the chance for them to discover their full potential.

The program involves three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

There are four sections at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. With assistance from adult Leaders, participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and, at Gold level, Residential. Each section must be done for a minimum period of time. It must be monitored and then assessed by someone with knowledge of that particular activity to achieve an Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has become a significant program to develop the skills of our students. Currently Killara high School have one of the largest programs on offer in NSW.

The Award is not a competition against anyone else, but rather a personal challenge. It offers the opportunity to work with others while focusing on the individual’s own unique abilities.

Students at Killara High School who meet the selection criteria at the end of Year 8 will be offered a place in the Bronze Program which commences in Year 9. Provided that these students meet further selection criteria at the end of the Bronze Program then they will have the opportunity to continue to the Silver Program in Year 10 and same with the Gold in Year 11. 

For this rewarding program, students must be organised, independent and  trustworthy to be considered for this award.​

The information night scheduled for parents/care givers and students regarding the awards will take place in The Theatre Wednesday 18 March at 6pm.
