From the Principal

Week 4

At week 4, we feel like we are really back into the routine. Part of the Killara Term 1 traditions are a round of events that allow families to meet their child’s teachers, and learn important information about their stage of schooling. Next week is particularly busy in this regard.

On Monday (24 February) all parents of Year 12 students are invited to an Information Evening to support them as their child moves through the final year of secondary school. On Tuesday (25 February) we invite Chinese and Korean parents to hear from a number of key people in the school.

On Wednesday (26 February) all Year 7 parents are invited to a breakfast to meet their child’s Home Group teacher. During the following week, there is an Information Evening for Year 7 parents on Monday 2 March, and on Tuesday 3 March, Dr Kristy Goodwin will be speaking about how to raise happy healthy kids who thrive online and off.  I encourage all families to come along to the relevant events. The better informed you are about school processes and practices, the better you can support your child to succeed.

This week, Year 7 travelled to Arcadia for the annual Orientation Camp. These events require great commitment from staff, particularly given the large numbers of students involved. My sincere thanks go to all staff who attended, and particularly Year Advisers Mr Arash Atah and Ms Ayesha Ghazzawy, Stage 4 Head Teacher Mrs Ruth Charles, and Year 7 Deputy Principal Mr David Browne. The “honour roll” of camp staff also includes: Mr Mario Tsang, Ms Jenny Newell, Dr Sarah Mulholland, Ms Catherine Latham, Ms Samantha Kelly, Mr Alexander Kammer, Ms Natalie Hill, Mr Jake Henzler, Ms Kerrie Hanich, Mr Brendon Francis, Mr Michael Austin, Mr David Aubusson, Ms Georgina Andrews, Ms Lucinda Bennie, Ms Georgia Williams and Ms Laura Manley.

I look forward to catching up with our families in the next couple of weeks.
