From the Acting Principal

Principal's Report

Welcome back for term three. I trust that staff and students had some time to relax and reflect on their efforts for the year. I look forward to a similar consistent and hardworking effort for semester two.

To the students who have performed well, keep up the great work and effort!  To our students who may have been somewhat disappointed with their efforts and results, you now have an opportunity to make changes over the next two terms. We are here to support your learning and I encourage students to avail themselves of our after school homework programs if required.

Term three is critical for planning.  Most of our preparation for 2020 is undertaken in the next few weeks and this will commence with finalising our transition data, course counselling processes and in turn, our staffing.  An additional task this year will be the planning and preparation for our new 4.5 million STEM building.  Block D will be demolished at some stage this year and a new state of the art building will take its place.

We have a healthy number of Grade 6 students wishing to enrol for 2020, so we will once again have at least 8 home groups. This will ensure a consistent student population of approximately 1200 students. We look forward to meeting our new students and their families later this term.

This week we also welcome our very special guests from our sister school Kogakkan High, Japan.  We have a number of busy weeks with great activities planned.  Thank you to all the families who are hosting and supporting such a wonderful program - it would not be possible without the support of the school community.

Kogakkan High School is a Shinto School and part of the Shinto University in Ise, Japan.  Shinto is a very traditional religion in Japan and is seen as a very prestigious and important part of Japanese culture.  It is a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to a different culture and experience new and different ways of thinking and working. This is in line with the departments FISO model, Community Engagement in Learning (Global Citizenship).

Our Year 10 students are back after a month away from school, due to two weeks work experience followed by the term break. Ms Vossos and Mr Raiti did a terrific job in completing paperwork and coordinating the program for almost 200 students. Many schools have stopped or reduced work experience in recent times but we at Rosehill believe the experience is invaluable and provides our students with a taste of the workforce and possibilities for future pathways. Such discussions will no doubt take place during course counselling and subject selection sessions in the coming weeks.

A random selection of parents will receive notification to complete the Online Parent Opinion Survey this year.  Families will have until 11th August complete this survey and we welcome your feedback.  If you receive notification to complete the survey please answer the questions openly and honestly as we value your opinion and want to hear your thoughts about our school.  Each family will receive a unique code. This can only be used once and your responses will be anonymous.
