A Word from the Principal

A warm welcome to our community

It is great to see some sunshine!

Footy Day Tomorrow!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Footy Day! Both Kerryn Cheetham and myself are putting on a special hot dog lunch for all of the students. Thanks to everyone who got their orders in. Perfect footy food! Thanks in advance to Mrs Nancarrow who has organised some wonderful activities for the students on our final day for the term, including a footy clinic and a footy colours parade.  It should be a fun day!  On these special days there is always some singing of all the footy theme songs.  For the last three weeks our footy anthems have been played across the PA system so the students can learn their team’s song.  I am hoping that they will all be able to join in at the parade on Friday.  Go Bombers!

School Review

We have now completed the third and final day of the school review which is fabulous.  We have received a lot of positive verbal feedback and we look forward to reading a report soon which will be made available to the whole community.

It truly makes me feel very proud and honoured to be a part of a very special school.  The culture of Weeden Heights was acknowledged so many times throughout our discussions.  You are all a part of it so thank you for all of the contributions that you make each and every day to our number one priority, our students (your children).  It certainly is a team effort to ensure that we are providing the best possible learning opportunities to create and develop amazing people.

I would particularly like to thank the students who were ‘just themselves’ during classroom observations and discussion groups.  Our students present so well and I knew they would be impressive and articulate!  To our parents, your ongoing support and commitment to the school was evident in your survey comments and the discussion group with the reviewer.  I certainly make other principals very envious when I talk about you all!  The staff have progressed so far over the life of the Strategic Plan to implement high impact teaching approaches and provide stimulating programs.  I am proud of their efforts and their united approach to improve learning outcomes for each and every student.  A special thank you has to go to Kerryn Cheetham who ‘knocked over’ the review panel with her homemade cooking. Our students could have provided some delights if the review day fell on a kitchen day.   The review was a combined effort from everyone and it culminates the work completed over the four years of the Strategic Plan.  AMAZING effort by everyone.  I am one super proud Principal!!!

School Production

Students continue to learn songs and dances for our school production, Brand New Me.  We are now heading into a two week break so apologies in advance if you are having moved furniture to rehearse dance routines or loud singing from the bathroom where the acoustics are awesome.  The students will need to keep up their practise so that they can put on a great show for you.  It is just a reminder that tickets are on sale now and the work done on the production forms a significant proportion of their end of year mark in Performing Arts.  One thing that we do very well as a school is coming together as a community.  The production is a fabulous opportunity for this to happen once again.

PS look out for our posts on Facebook and Instagram!

Workforce Planning

Our indicative budget for 2020 was released by the department yesterday so work will now commence on the school budget using actual figures and not estimated figures.  Accurate information is critical in setting up the budget so we can accommodate for our students and their needs.

If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations and the Weeden Heights PS budget.

End of Term 3 Assembly

We will be having a brief assembly at 2.15pm on Friday under the sails (weather pending) to say farewell for the holidays.  Please remember that the school will finish at 2.30pm.

Please have a safe and enjoyable term break and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 7 October.

Until next time,

Ms Kylie Campbell

Principal
