Library Borrowing

Borrowing continues to occur on Fridays for all students. Books may be returned on Thursdays if it is more convenient. Please remember to bring a bag to transport books to and from school.

Should students wish, borrowing may also be done on Wednesdays at lunch by seeing Mrs Galvin.

A reminder that there are still many books overdue from term 1- especially those that went out at the beginning of remote learning.

Children's Book Council of Australia

Shortlisted books for these prestigious awards have been announced.  We are fortunate that many of these books are already in our library and I look forward to sharing some more of these this term.

Louie and Snippy Save The Sea- Collette Dinnegan.

This book deals with the very real issue of oceanic pollution approached in a simple manner to educate younger readers about the need to be aware of what can happen to plastic and other litter. Stage 3 are looking at the issues raised in the book during library lessons this term.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Many St Joseph's students are nearing the end of the Challenge with 57 now finished. Just a few more books for some students and they will also be finished.

There have been over 100 books added to the Challenge list during the recent holidays and include titles from this years Children's Book Council  short list.

The following adjustments have been applied to the Challenge in 2020:

  • Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books - an increase from five. The codes needed to add these choice books are 685957; 685958; 685959; 685960 and 685961; or simply search '2020 Bonus Choice'
  • Students on all Challenge levels will be able to include books on their reading records that they read collaboratively as a class, in person or online with their teacher or at home with their parents/carers.

All students have  their login details for the Challenge. Primary students are able to upload their own data. Students in Kinder and Stage 1 are able to keep a log and I will enter these when they are returned to school. These reading logs may be returned to school when complete.

Parents of infants (K -2) students who wish to input their child's books to the Challenge may do so and it will be appreciated.

The Reading Challenge concludes 28th August.
