When we learn together, we learn better
After school last Wednesday a group of teachers gathered in our Café to talk about how we learn as an organisation, as individual staff and how best to help students learn.
This event was facilitated by the Learning Leadership Team (LLT) who I introduced to you via my start of term letter. (attached here if required)
The LLT is steering the work of innovating and improving the quality of teaching and learning for everyone within our school. To do this, we need to hear from all stakeholders, and continue to keep open lines of communication. So, there will be more such events in the future.
Of course, we also want to hear from students and parents, about their ideas, preferences, successes, and challenges in partnering with us to learn. We are inviting all parents of students, from ELC to Year 12, to drop into the Café on either Wednesday 12 August 2020 between 5:00pm and 6:30pm or Wednesday 19 August 2020 between 5:00pm and 6:30pm. This is an informal event where any topic related to learning can be raised, questions can be asked, and differing viewpoints will be heard. You do not need to stay for the whole time. Feel free to arrive whenever suits you best.
We are naming this event, “Talking about how we learn”. I am looking forward to seeing you there. An invitation via TryBooking.com will be posted on Facebook soon.
For ideas on what we might discuss, here are some suggestions:
- What if my child is not interested in reading?
- Do students really have different learning styles?
- How does wellbeing affect learning?
- How important are grades?
- What should my child’s learning space at home look like?
- How do specific learning needs affect my child’s progress?
- Should every child do homework?
- What can I do to help my child manage their technology use?
- What does it mean to have a growth mindset?

Letter from AISSA
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are collaborating with Learning Creates Australia and the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution on a global research study of parents’ beliefs about their children’s education.
We would be grateful if you would take the following survey by Friday August 7. The survey takes 15 minutes to complete and consists of 34 questions: https://surveyhero.com/c/SouthAustralia
Your study participation will help to develop a better understanding about what parents believe makes for a good quality education for their children. The information gathered from this survey will be used for research purposes only. Your participation in this survey is entirely voluntary.
If you have any questions in regard to this survey please feel free to contact me.
