From the Principal's Desk

Dear parents and carers,

One more sleep and it will be Winter! It has been a chilly start to Week 6 – but there are plenty of activities and events happening at Windang Public School to keep us all busy, active and warm! Students are looking fabulous in their Winter uniforms. Please visit the online P&C Uniform Shop to purchase anything you may need to stay warm this Winter.

National Reconciliation Week 2022

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. All classes have been engaging in lessons and activities exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. Yesterday, Monday 30 May, I had the privilege of accompanying our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Years 1 to 6 at the 2022 Reconciliation Week School Flag Walk. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to take part in such a significant community event and walk with many other local schools. Jarvis and Victoria were the flag bearers for Windang Public School this year, proudly leading our students on the walk. Jarvis even made an appearance on WIN Local News, sharing his ideas on reconciliation. Well done!

Windang Public School's 80th Anniversary

As you are aware, our beautiful school is celebrating 80 years of excellence in public education this year. The date in Term 4 for our celebration will be confirmed soon. I am hoping to be able to share as many photographs and forms of memorabilia as possible at the celebration, so that people can take a wonderful trip down memory lane. I know we have families that have had generations come through our school, so I am asking everyone to please have a look through your old photographs, and if you are happy for the school to make a copy and share these, that would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me through our school's front office if you have any further questions or ideas. There will be an 80th Anniversary Committee Meeting advertised soon - if you would like to be a part of the planning for our celebration or have some fantastic ideas to share, please keep an eye out for the date and come along!

State Emergency Services Wear Orange Wednesday - SES WOW

On Wednesday 18 May, we welcomed our local State Emergency Services volunteers to Windang Public School to thank them for their tireless efforts in keeping our community safe. Students wore orange, made cards and pictures to say thank you, and enjoyed chatting with the volunteers throughout the morning. Ms Papesch even made some delicious carrot cake to share with our local heroes! Some students were eagerly asking how they could become an SES volunteer, and I have no doubt that in the future we will see some of our students giving back to the community, which is very heartwarming!

I am very proud of all students and staff for their efforts so far this term - there are so many wonderful initiatives always happening at our school! Please make sure you continue to keep up to date with ENEWS - due to the weather, many events are being postponed or canceled which is unfortunately out of our control, but we are always sending out announcements to ensure information is communicated as soon as possible.

Keep shining everyone!
